Kinokuniya

Kinokuniya, one of the world's leading bookstore chains, launched its first outlet in Bangladesh at Centerpoint Mall, Dhaka. Renowned for its expansive literary selection and distinguished manga collection, the Japanese brand has established a strong presence across major cities worldwide.
The project was developed in close collaboration with Kinokuniya's international development team, ensuring full compliance with the brand's global identity, design standards, and spatial requirements while responding to the local context of Dhaka.
A carefully articulated entrance, formed by recessing the mall's glass façade, creates a strong sense of arrival and differentiates the store from adjacent retail units. Internally, the spatial organization revolves around a central oculus that acts as the store's visual anchor. The arrangement of island displays and perimeter shelving naturally guides visitors through the space, creating an intuitive and engaging browsing experience.
The children's area is designed as a lively and colorful zone, reflecting the spirit of discovery associated with young readers. The service counter features a backdrop inspired by an abstract interpretation of the Kinokuniya logo, reinforcing brand identity within the interior environment.
A palette of warm materials, accented by the brand's characteristic deep blue tones, establishes a welcoming atmosphere. An integrated café complements the bookstore program, encouraging visitors to linger and engage with the space. More than a retail fit-out, the project seeks to create a contemporary cultural destination that fosters a deep connection between readers, books, and place.
